This is Getting Good.

It occurred to me while I was bathing the kids the other day that I do a lot for Emma that she could probably do herself, just out of habit. So I asked her if she wanted to learn to wash herself. She was thrilled with the idea, and now washes her whole body and her hair by herself. I am thinking this is fantastic, as it is getting harder and harder for me to work around my burgeoning belly as I lean over the bathtub.

Last night when I had them in the bath, Matthew stood up, (just like Emma) rubbed his little hands together as if he had soap on them, (because that's what Emma does with her soap), and proceeded to wash just about his whole body. I just had to do his hair and then we were done. Dreamy.

Then on Thanksgiving, Emma suddenly got over her fear of the central vacuum and asked me if she could vacuum the floor. I let Matthew play in the Tupperware cupboard to keep him occupied, and she vacuumed. I have to say that she did a pretty bang up job. Every day since then she asks if she can vacuum. All I can say is, it's a good thing that we're having another kid soon. With my older children already turning into my little slaves, what would I have to do all day?

Isn't it the best when they not only start to do things for themselves, but also want to help with the chores! I love it!

Your little "slaves" are dang adorable. Heck that's why we're having kids, or at least that's what Stuart jokingly says.

That photo of Mathew sitting in the bowl cracks me up!

I just recently started letting Enoch wash himself too. It's funny how you mentioned the whole Mommy habit thing. I've been trying to give Enoch more responsibility to allow him to grow. He is eating it up. I love it!

Vacuuming at my house is a two man job. One to vacuum and one to hold the screaming children. Both my kids are scared to death of the thing. I've tried everything I can do to reassure them. I'd love any great tips you can offer.

Nice! I need to learn from you...it's easy to forget they are growing up and becoming more capable.

I love it! You are a good woman. They'll thank you for it later. I miss seeing you and your cute black shoes at church. Take care and keep up the good "work".

Too cute! Emma can visit my place anytime; my floors could use a good vacuum. :)

I decided to do it because of the craziness of our situation. I've thought about it for other reasons, too. I don't know. I just decided now was the time... and I think it makes me look important =)

Isn't it wonderful to have those sudden realizations that kids can do things themselves? I got Xavier to try out our vacuum the other day and he loved watching the dog hair swirl around the bagless mini-vacuum. And my favorite is when he starts singing the "clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere..." song from nursery!
